Thai PDPA’s full enforcement is now postponed to June 2022
Please be updated that on 8 May 2021, a new royal decree was published in the Thai Royal Gazette to defer the full enforcement of the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) to 1 June 2022. However, only entities and businesses exempted under the prescribed list will enjoy this deferral.
However, given the importance of data and privacy that is increasing these days, the PDPA enforcement can no longer be overlooked, despite such one-year deferral. As a result, your organization should begin an internal PDPA compliance review right away in order to effectively prepare for the PDPA’s full implementation on 1 June 2022.
Kindly note that it is expected that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society may issue new regulations under the PDPA, particularly ones related to security measures of personal data, in the near future. We will keep you posted on the relevant updates related to the PDPA and the significant developments thereto.
